i dare you to disappear for 6 months.
the only way to get good at anything
Look, it’s week 2 of 2025. And momentum is everything.
And in order to win the game, you need to stay in it.
You set your goals. You have them on your calendar.
You’ve told your friends. You’ve set rewards.
You’re reading Atomic Habits.
How could you possibly fail this year? No way.
But statistically only 9% of people do.
So today, I’m going to lay down the exact protocol I used to become part of that 9% in 2023 and use all year round.
Your Simple Guide to Monk Mode
(as an entrepreneur or creator)
Monk mode has gained popularity over the years. But many overcomplicate it.
What is it? A season of sacrifice.
I mentioned this on my podcast with Chris when we talked about “work-life balance”
There is no work life balance in our internet game to greatness and success.
There are seasons.
Seasons of deep work and deep rest.
Here’s how I do monk mode and actually win.
🏁 START HERE:
1) Setting yourself 3 big and ambitious goals:
- “Hit 50k followers on LinkedIn by 2026”
- “Get invited to speak on a dream podcast”
- “Hire a team to scale the business and work less”
2) Reverse-engineer the macro tasks that you need to get there
- “Post high quality content that gets engagement daily”
- “Position myself as an authority worth listening to online”
- “Figure out exactly what I can outsource and how to”
3) Become insanely specific about the best way to achieve the macro tasks and create micro habits for you to implement every single day.
Goal 1: “Hit 50k followers on LinkedIn”
Macro: “Post high-quality content that gets engagement daily”
Micro task 1: Study the best hooks by top creators (I used kleo for this)
Micro task 2: Educate 80% of the time and inspire 20%
Micro task 3: Find 5 topics to educate on and 5 to inspire
Micro task 4: Use proven frameworks to go from topic to content (I use kleo for this)
Micro task 5: Hack engagement by engaging with others for 60 mins a day
See, to win at goal-setting you need to master habit setting.
Your goals can be big. But they also need to be SMART.
Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and TIME bound.
Otherwise, they’re easy to drop as there’s no urgency.
🏁 Double down here:
Our big and ambitious goals are there and we’ve made them extremely achievable.
But there is one key here thing, and that is in your routine.
↳ Pick a physical activity to do daily and 4x a week
This helps you build on your habit of resilience and consistency.
Walking 10k steps a day helps your fitness but also your mind.
Training for a marathon or hyrox gives you a solid routine.
Focus is truly unlocked at the gym.
And it spills over everywhere else.
↳ Download Opal and Cold Turkey (app blockers)
Social media growth is the goal for most of us so “remove all social media” isn’t great advice.
Removing all social media for specific times of the day works a lot better.
You only need 4hrs of being online to grow (I’ve tested this)
For the rest of the day, social media should be locked.
↳ Selective socialising
I’m not going to tell you to “lock in” and hide away because that isn’t sustainable but I will tell you to stay away from entertainment for at least 60 days.
Going out, cinema, concerts - they often drain our energy.
Swap it for meeting up with friends with similar goals to stimulate your mind.
Swap it for conferences and events to speed up your goals
There needs to be some compromise here.
But please, do cut alcohol out for that time.
It’s a proven fact that when you do your focus skyrockets.
The reason why my mentor said “never drop the ball” is because getting the ball to start bouncing is hard, but keeping it on your hands while it bounces is harder.
Having habits and routines and most importantly specific goals to maintain it is the real kicker here.
But now you know how.
There are no shortcuts. Only non-negotiable habits.
Thanks for reading, I hope we can win this year together.
To your success…
Lara 🙂
PS: I’m building a notion for my big ambitious goals too and how I am reverse engineering them… should i turn it into a template?
100k is such a nice number hahah
