The harsh truth about "being the niche"
EVERYONE I meet wants to be the niche.
But what they really mean is that they want have influence in their niche.
And to do that you don’t start by calling yourself “the niche”
or “the pineapple on pizza” guy or “the queen of linkedin” girl.
You get told you are it by your audience after they personally qualify you as it through the content you create every day.
Look, to become the niche you need to win at 1 niche first.
This is because its easier to win authority in one small section of the internet than trying to go for ALL of it.
Think of it as a competition.
You go to qualifiers first, then to nationals, and then through some other qualifier competitions, and you can make it to worlds if you win at all of them.
And growing a personal brand where you’re seen as the niche is literally the same.
Here are 4 simple ways to do it:
Pick a small sub niche where you have the most skill on
Create content that is highly actionable for your audience
Slowly stack followers and connections until your engagement increases
Over time, drip in bits and bobs of your other interests like travel or entrepreneurship or pizzas…
This then allows your audience to know you for 1 thing first and convince them that you are worth following and supporting for everything else.
Over time as you grow, they’ll naturally be interested in other adjacent areas of your life that help them put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Niche down, then niche up slowly.
It’s exactly how the people who are telling you that you can be the niche, became the niche.
Specialized doing 1 thing then used the halo effect from it to be recognized for other things.
Trying to be the niche is exhausting.
You get caught up on an endless existential loop trying to make your entire life seem super interesting.
Instead, you could be making the 1 interesting thing about your life (your niche or skill) the interesting thing, making others interested in the other parts of your life instead.
I used to talk about just writing, today I talk about most things because you guys are interested.
But we got to this point because you liked my writing first.
It all started with 1 thing.
And I have a playbook and blueprint showing you exactly how you can learn to work your way up to becoming the niche.
PS: I’m hosting a FREE webinar for you!
