- too much noise, not enough signals.
too much noise, not enough signals.
steve jobs was right
When I was learning how to speak English, I learnt the word focus.
It’s one of the few words I vividly remember learning.
I saw it everywhere after my dad had a book in his bookshelf named focus too.
It stuck with me.
Not because I’m a genius and this is my origin story.
But because my dad enforced a key belief that I recently saw again.
In this world, there are noise and there are signals.
The noise is every single piece of information we have available.
And right now, we live in an economy of noise.
Everyone is building an AI-Startup.
Everyone is getting replaced with AI.
Everyone should be reading and listening to 10 podcasts.
It’s become a “yes, i’ll do it” society.
Where we believe we must say yes to it all.
We believe we must be involved in everything.
But somewhere in that chaos, we’ve lost the art of saying no.
The art of focus.
And this is why people are going broke.
This is why people are losing their jobs.
This is why people are losing themselves.
Some of it is fear of missing out.
Some of it is fear of never getting opportunities again.
I used to struggle with both, more so the latter.
But it’s become a problem, especially in our little pocket of the internet.
This is why most entrepreneurs are now selling their watches, cars and moving back home.
Because they lost the thing that got them to where they were.
The ability to recognise signals and focus on them.
And I don’t blame them.
Lara’s Signal Razor: How to escape the noise and gain velocity.
Everything is a Mario Kart game.
Video games are addictive because of a multitude of psychological reasons but the one I want you to pay attention is the clarity of the game.
Be the first to reach the end.
There’s bananas thrown at you.
There’s people racing next to you.
There’s a clock ticking and going against you.
But if you manage to simply keep your head in the game you will win.
I play 3 races a day.
The fitness mario kart race.
The business mario kart race.
The content creation mario kart race.
All I need to do is finish what I started.
Remove the noise, you doing the 1 thing is the signal.
Play life with the same intensity you’d play a video game.
Sounds silly, it works.
For business owners and entrepreneurs:
Your way of applying this razor this week is to cut the noise.
What is the one task you need to do this week that will significantly turn around your speed?
What noise can you remove today?
Mine? I cut all calls for a month.
Sacrificing short-term income from coaching calls for long-term clarity.
It hurt, but it turns out it’s exactly what I needed.
Let me know what the noise is for you.
A podcast you should watch on noise vs signals
A post on why speed is the ultimate cheatcode
A 60 second video on how someone I know applied it
That’s literally it for today.
Love you x
